In this blog post, we delve deeper into the recent additions to the Microsoft Dynamics 365 family and the associated license details. Specifically, we focus on the recent additions, namely Dynamics 365 Field Service Contractor and Dynamics 365 Finance Premium, added to the Dynamics 365 suite on January 1, 2024.
Dynamics 365 Field Service Contractor
Purpose and features: This new addition is tailored for external technicians providing services on behalf of an organization. It includes a subset of the core features of the regular Dynamics 365 Field Service offering.
License model: Dynamics 365 Field Service Contractor operates on a User Subscription License (User SL or USL) basis. Every user requiring access to the app must hold a valid license.
Restricted use: Despite being targeted at “contractors,” organizations are not allowed to use this offering for users requiring less functionality to save costs, as specified in the Microsoft Product Terms for Dynamics 365 online services.
Licensing prerequisites: Organizations must have purchased a license (Dynamics 365 Field Service User SL or Dynamics 365 Field Service Device SL and Microsoft Entra ID User SL for the contractor’s employee(s)).

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance Premium
Business Performance Planning: Introduced in late 2023, this feature provides a comprehensive overview of financial and operational performance. It simplifies and automates planning, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and analytics with integration with Microsoft PowerBI and Excel.
License model: To fully utilize business performance planning, users need the new Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance Premium User SL, recommended for roles responsible for strategic financial plans, budgets, reports, and insights.
User roles: Users making light edits to business performance planning analytics can do so with their Dynamics 365 Finance license, while those only needing to read the analytics require a Team Member license.
Minimum purchase: There are no licensing prerequisites for Finance, but there are minimum purchase requirements (20 licenses for Dynamics 365 Finance and/or Dynamics 365 Finance Premium).
