Microsoft Agent 365 is the central platform within Microsoft 365 that allows organizations to register, manage, and secure AI agents. Agents can originate from Microsoft, open source, or third-party platforms and work integrated with apps such as Teams, Outlook, Word, and Excel. The platform provides an overview of all agents, including agents with a Microsoft Enterprise Agent ID, self-registered agents, and so-called shadow agents.
Each AI agent receives a unique Microsoft Enterprise Agent ID for identity, lifecycle, and access management. Agents are observable and manageable via the Microsoft 365 Admin Center, allowing IT teams to gain insight into performance, behavior, and risks. Agents can track alerts and perform actions within productivity apps, depending on the configuration and access rights.
Functionalities of Agent 365
Microsoft Agent 365 enables organizations to centrally monitor agents. Features include access control, notification functionality, and performance overview. The platform supports various types of agents and integrates with Microsoft 365 apps. Logging and reporting capabilities provide insight into agent usage and interactions.
Licenses and usage
Microsoft Agent 365 will become generally available starting May 1, 2026. Organizations can purchase the platform as a standalone license or through a new premium Microsoft 365 suite, such as Microsoft 365 E7, which includes Agent 365 along with other services such as Copilot.
Agents that perform tasks on behalf of a user — for example, an AI agent that processes emails or generates reports — depend on that user’s license. This means that a user must have a valid Agent 365 or Microsoft 365 E7 license. Additional configuration or licensing may be required for specific scenarios.
These licensing options allow organizations to determine whether to purchase Agent 365 standalone or as part of a bundle, depending on their needs and existing licensing strategy.
